Why are we talking about giving thanks in June? It is the time of year that our annual Thank Offering is collected.

If you did not attend The Flourish Conference in 2024, you may not know that we have been working to innovate our Thank Offering process. Because we believe having an attitude of gratitude is pleasing to the Lord, we want to continue to promote this worthwhile practice. Over the past several years we have noticed a significant drop in participation, though, so we have had many discussions about how and if we needed to make changes in how Thank Offering works.

In an age when fewer and fewer people are carrying coins, we felt we needed to find another way to engage women in this worthwhile practice. We added online giving last year as an alternative to coin bank offering for those who preferred that method, and we feel that is a great start, but it is not for everyone.

Because this offering is more than just monetary giving, we wanted to find a way to promote a daily practice of giving thanks to the Lord.  For those who do not want to use the coin bank, we would like to suggest an alternative. Women are encouraged to keep a Thank Offering journal. Each day, a short thank you note can be written to the Lord.  At the end of the year, that would be 365 days of thank offerings.  We suggest a gift of just $.10 per day which would total $36.50 for the year, although women are free to give any amount the Lord should lead them to give.

Why should you write it in a journal instead of a quick prayer of thanks? Writing a short thank-you note to the Lord will take less than two minutes a day, but you will have a record of what you are thankful for. Over time, you will find that you begin to think more deeply about what you are thankful for, and this helps to promote a lifestyle of gratitude. A side benefit is generations from now a family member will be able to remember you as a woman with a thankful heart.

Thank Offering is collected in each local women’s group early in May and is sent to the CGWM regional treasurer.  The regional treasurer sends 60% of the Thank Offering to the General Conference Women’s Ministries and the 40% remaining will be dispersed by each region to the ministries of their choice.

In 2025, the National CGWM Thank Offering will be disbursed as follows. A pamphlet is available that describes each ministry in more detail.

2025 Thank Offerings will support:

➢Bogra Christian Hospital Nursing Scholarships in Bangladesh (15%)

➢Venezuela Bible School (15%)

➢Physical Therapy School in Haiti (20%)

➢Winebrenner Female Students (25%)

➢Women’s Leadership Development (25%)

It is exciting to report that our 2024 Thank Offering totaled $18,204.48. Of that, $10,922.69 was disbursed to the following ministries supported by CGMW:
